About DaveDiscovered
A curated catalogue of software, tools and services worth your attention — with the reasoning attached, so you can disagree with it.
What this is
Most software directories are scraped lists sorted by whoever paid most. This one is edited. Every listing is written up by a person, and each one has to answer the same three questions: what does it actually do, what does it cost, and who is it wrong for.
The catalogue is deliberately narrower than it could be. A tool that nobody here can describe honestly does not get a page.
Why there are no star ratings
There is no rating, score or review count anywhere on this site, and none in its structured data either. That is a deliberate choice rather than an omission: we do not collect user reviews, so any number we published would be invented. A stated position and the trade-offs behind it are more useful than a fabricated 4.6.
How this is funded
Affiliate commissions, on some of the links, some of the time. Those links are marked as paid links in the page and tagged rel="sponsored noopener noreferrer" in the markup, so software can see it too.
What money does not buy: a listing, a position, a verdict, or the removal of a criticism. Plenty of tools here earn us nothing at all. The full affiliate disclosure spells this out.
How something gets published
- It is drafted — researched, priced, written up.
- It is approved by a human being who has read the draft.
- Only then is it published.
Those are three separate steps in that order, enforced by the system rather than by good intentions. Nothing reaches a public page without an explicit approval on record.
Corrections
Pricing moves, features get cut, companies get acquired. If something here is out of date or plainly wrong, tell us — corrections are treated as edits to the record, not as complaints.
